katie & brandon [5.1.09]

remember katie from her lovely bridals? well, katie and brandon are finally hitched! (sorry for my southern tongue-- I promise I'll try to control it :)

in the beginning, everybody was a little afraid that the bride and groom's perfect day might be ruined by the overcast, threatening skies. But as fate would have it, the clouds held out and the outdoor ceremony was absolutely stunning!

katie & brandon made their life-long commitment to each other official and public at the first of the month, and could not have held such an incredible wedding at a better place. Their ceremony and reception was held at Market Street Grill on Cottonwood in Salt Lake City which not only had the most amazing rustic ceremony area, but also a fantastic seafood bar that allowed for some rockin' photos.

A big thanks goes out to Brandon and Katie for allowing Folks Photography to be part of your absolutely gorgeous day! We feel so honored and which you both nothing but the best in the future!

Another big thanks to Eric Schott for assisting us! You rock!

Just a friendly reminder: Make sure to show some blog love for Katie and Brandon!

loved this detail

loved this area-- so fun!

these shots are always my VERY favorite-- those quiet moments when the bride and groom share that special look and smile with one another-- it's only there for that split second, and then they're back to trying to get back to their structured pose for the camera. Needless to say, these are the best poses possible-- the candid ones :)

Katie Lee [bridals]

Katie...Is...Gorgeous! Bottom line. Which made her bridal session so amazingly easy. We decided to meet early in the morning in Salt Lake City to capture Katie in her beautfiul wedding dress. First stop, the infamous Memory Grove and next, the Capitol. Thanks so much to Katie for keeping those watery peepers open during the shoot despite the unbelievably bright sun! Although, she made watery eyes look GoOoOoOd!

Katie & Brandon are getting married THIS WEEKEND and we are so excited to capture their special day together. Keep your eyes peeled for their wedding photos! To view their engagements, click here.

We all wished that big beam in the middle of the window wasn't there-- but doesn't Katie rock this shot?

annie & travis [1.17.09]

Annie and Travis got married a couple weeks ago at the Salt Lake Temple. It was a chilly but gorgeous day. These two were such troopers and put their best faces forward--and their photos turned out great as a result! Annie & Travis were so adorable with one another, which made my job even easier. They are so in love and it shows in every single picture. Their luncheon was held right after their wedding at the Marriott Hotel in downtown Salt Lake, and their reception was held later that day at the Rice Eccles Stadium. Everything looked amazing and their hard work definitely paid off!

Annie & Travis' Dating/Engagement Story:
Travis and Annie met through a mutual friend in April of 2008. They began dating that next month, and continued all through the summer. When September came around, Travis had decided to ask Annie to marry him. On October 10, Travis took Annie up to Park City to look at sites, go shopping and out to dinner. After a romantic dinner later that night, Travis took Annie to a park in Provo that held significance to them both. He walked her along a river in the park up to a gazebo surrounded by trees and flowers. Once in the gazebo, all at once, the gazebo lit up in lights, with music playing all around them. Of course, Travis then dropped to one knee and asked Annie to marry him. Travis and Annie were married on January 17, 2009 in Salt Lake City. They currently live in Provo, Utah.

Thanks again to Annie and Travis for allowing us to be a part of your big day. Congratuations you two!

Gilgal...a wonderful place

Ever heard of it? I hadn't either, but my incredible husband seems to educate me a little bit more every single day.

After Annie and Travis' wedding on Saturday, Matt remembered that the Gilgal Garden was near, so we took a little pit-stop. As mentioned before, this was my very first visit to this special place...and to be honest, I thought it was kind of creepy! It could have been because it was pitch black outside in a backyard. OR it could have been because of a creepy sculpture of an old man head haha But overall it was pretty cool.

The story kind of goes like this... (I don't remember the whole story...) there was a guy a long time ago who was LDS and really liked to sculpt stuff, so he began gathering large pieces of stone throughout Utah and put together this really awesome "art gallery" in his backyard. They're all very symbolic, so you'd have to grab a pamphlet in order to get it all. But it's now actually owned by Utah and open for visit. It's pretty sweet, you should check it out sometime. It's located in Salt Lake City. So here are some pics from our late night visit:

Here's Matt reading some of the poetry engraved on some of the stones. This one had something to do with scattered body parts haha but even though I don't remember the real symbolism (i was tired!), it's not a gross story. I promise.

Books are always sweet

Here's the scary old man head I was telling you about! Along with a wicked sweet grasshopper!

The Joseph Smith Sphinx....go figure...

Blurry poetry....WAY hard to focus in pitch black lighting

We can't get enough of this one

as you can tell...

...its off to work I go...

So after a great weekend filled with a bride, groom, family and friends, I'm finally sitting down and editing the photos from Annie and Travis' wedding from Saturday. Their wedding was gorgeous! But I won't talk about that too much yet--gotta wait until I have all the photos finished! But as always, I'll give you a little sneak peak in hopes that you'll keep checking back until they're all up :)

And just for the record, I'm realizing I'm a total dork--while I edit pictures, I simply HAVE to have noise in the background. And this noise is typically a season of Friends or The Office playing on my computer (LOVE them!). If I don't have one of those playing, I feel lost. Here's a question for the other photographers out there....what's something you guys always do in order to entertain yourselves while you're editing? Just wondering. But I'd really love to know!

Ciao for now!

annie's bridals

Friday, January 9, 2009 was a freezing, windy day in Salt Lake City--but Annie's bridals turned out incredible! Despite the fact that she had to keep her hands moving so they didn't fall off, she was such a great sport and looked amazing in her custom-made wedding dress.

Annie and Travis will be getting married this weekend and I am so excited! I feel so honored that they selected me to capture this special day for them. I am so happy for these two, and wish them all the best.  Stay tuned for their amazing wedding pics.

Here are a few of the highlights from her bridals. To view more photos, click here

Here's poor Annie trying to keep her hands warm :)

The wind didn't seem to want to cooperate...here is her veil with a mind of it's own. Love it.

Isn't her dress incredible?

One of my faves! She has gorgeous facial expressions
